Angelika’s practice is rooted in the idea that nothing ever needs to remain the same. She  embraces variety in form, material, and artistic discipline, ensuring her work remains dynamic and engaging.

Whether working in sculpture, painting or mixed media, she sees each medium as an opportunity to challenge assumptions and open new ways of seeing.

In her paintings and sculptures, layers of
material mirror the layers of life: moments that appear, fade and return in a new light. Angelika’s work invites you to slow down, look closer, and find beauty in the unexpected. The ordinary can become poetic through colour, texture and form. The unexpected can also lies in her subjects that affects our world.

She loves movement, both physically and in her thoughts. When she paints, this energy flows through her brushstrokes and her body.

Angelika completed her Propedeuse in drawing at the Art School in Tilburg at the age of 21. In 2016, She successfully graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Belgium.

At the heart of her art lies the concept of layering, both literal and metaphorical. She often removes familiar forms from their context and repositions them in a new light, asking viewers to reconsider what they think they see. What seems ordinary and self-evident becomes, through her approach, strange, intriguing, or even confrontational.

Across her oeuvre, Poels creates spaces where recognition meets estrangement, where the familiar becomes strange, and where viewers are invited into dialogue with the work. Her art is not about fixed interpretations but about opening doors to multiple possibilities.

For Angelika, art is a means of questioning reality and revealing the layered nature of our perception. Her eclectic and contemporary art, in which nothing ever needs to remain the same, grants her the freedom to continually explore, surprise, and estrange.
